Halicarnassos
Established by people from Troezene 1,00 B.C.
Had two natural harbors
Home of two historians : Herodotus & Dionysios
Colossal “mausoleum” built by Pytheos with statues by Scopas (one of the 7 wonders). Destroyed by earthquake. The word “mausoleum” established



Museum has the remains of two shipwrecks: 1. Helidonia: 1,200 B.C. with copper & tin coins
2. Ulu Burun(Kas): 1,360 B.C. (Bronze Age) with a ton of tin, ebony from Africa, porphyry for red paint, mastich & oldest captains diary
Budrum: name from castle of Petronios, used as a prison

Praxiteles’s statue of naked Venus made here, 250 known copies were also made. Original destroyed in a fire in Constantinople 394 AD
