Kappadocia: Peristremma


Ihlara Valley (Peristremma)
Near town of Guzelyurt. 16 km long valley. Whole valley honeycombed with underground dwellings and churches from the Byzantine period. Due to plentiful supply of water and hidden places, this is the first settlement of first Christians escaping from Roman soldiers. Hundreds of churches in the volcanic rock caves. The most known are
Agacalti – under tree. Dedicated  to prophet Daniel
Sumbullu- Hyacinth
Purenliseki- terrace. Dedicated to the 40 Martyrs
Kokar- smelly
Yilanli- snake
Karagedik- black collar
Kirkdamatli- St. George
Direkli- pillar
Ala- mottled
Kemerli
Egritas- crooked stone. Dedicated to Panayia.
